With the Nov. 5 general election just three weeks away, many of you are probably in the thick of trying to figure out which candidates and ballot measures to vote for.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we’re here to help. This year, for first time, we’ve put together a Los Angeles County Voter Guide to help you make sense of it all.
Think of it as a one-stop shop for information about candidates’ backgrounds and their positions on various issues, plus explanations about statewide ballot measures.
The candidates featured in our guide include those running for U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives seats, state legislative offices, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and seats on the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education.
By clicking on an individual candidate’s name in the guide, you can see their responses to our questionnaires in their own words. All candidates in the same race received the same questions. (Answers were only lightly edited for spelling, grammar, length and, when necessary, to remove offensive language.) For candidates who did not respond to our questionnaires, we included an explanation about why they did not participate.
You’ll also be able to read up on the 10 statewide ballot measures, ranging from education funding and minimum wage increases to affordable housing and rent control. Another measure that has gotten a lot of attention among L.A. County voters is Proposition 36, which would increase penalties for certain drug and retail theft crimes.
The Voter Guide also includes links to endorsements by Southern California News Group’s editorial board. These endorsements were made by our company’s editorial board. The newsroom is separate from and operates independently of the editorial board, but we’re including links to the endorsements as a reference.
