There is no such thing as “Southern California politics.”
Instead, if you look at recently released data for the 26 House seats that touch some parts of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, you find a wide variety of congressional communities.
In each district, with between roughly 700,000 and 800,000 residents, community numbers about education, income and age can vary wildly.
What’s more, if you layer in national averages for things like median household income ($80,610) and median mortgage payments ($2,617), you find that much of the region actually matches up with the rest of the country.
The one factor where Southern California does differ from the rest of the country is in the number of foreign-born legal residents; we’ve got a lot more than any place else.
