Six Flags Magic Mountain plans 21st roller coaster for 2026 – Daily News

Six Flags Magic Mountain will extend its lead as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World when the Valencia amusement park adds a 21st coaster to its record-setting lineup while continuing to fend off challenges by rivals edging ever closer to the title.

Six Flags Magic Mountain will debut a new coaster in 2026 that will be a first-of-its-kind thrill ride in North America, according to Six Flags officials.

The new Magic Mountain coaster is part of Six Flags’ plan to spend $1 billion on new rides, themed areas, special events and other amenities at its 42 amusement parks and water parks over the next two years.

Magic Mountain will release additional details on the new coaster in summer 2025.

Magic Mountain’s next coaster is expected to open on the former Golden Bear Theater location, according to Screamscape. Speculation has focused on the addition of a 200-foot-tall hyper coaster or 300-foot-tall giga coaster, according to Screamscape.

Magic Mountain demolished the Golden Bear Theater earlier this year, but park officials have no information to share about what will replace the venue.

A banner posted on the construction walls around the Golden Bear demo site featured a blue and orange cyborg bird with the slogan “Epic Thrills Are Cycling In.”

Magic Mountain remains the reigning king in a coaster war that heated up earlier this year when Poland’s Energylandia opened two new coasters — bringing its total to 19, just one behind the leader.

Energylandia has been on a building spree since opening about an hour outside Krakow with three coasters in 2014. The park added three coasters a year in 2015, 2017 and 2019 and two coasters a year in 2018, 2021 and 2024, according to Roller Coaster Database.

Energylandia has been vocal about coming after the Coaster Capital title and has set its sights on unseating the world champ.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has more roller coasters than any amusement park on Earth — a point of pride for the Valencia amusement park. The 20 coasters at Magic Mountain currently lead Poland’s Energylandia (19), Canada’s Wonderland (18) and Ohio’s Cedar Point (16), according to Roller Coaster Database.

Canada’s Wonderland plans to open the new AlpenFury coaster in 2025 — which would bring its coaster count to 19, tied for second place.

Cedar Point plans to add the Siren’s Curse coaster in 2025 while the park’s record-setting Top Thrill 2 coaster remains standing but not operating.

Energylandia canceled plans in 2023 to build a Vekoma tilt coaster that had been in the works for several years.

Magic Mountain last added the Wonder Woman Flight of Courage coaster in 2022.
